San Antonio Open Studio

We are excited to offer Open Studio hours for those who are looking to create on their own time. Open Studio hours are intended for those who have prior experience with clay, either hand building or on the wheel. Our team is there to assist you with the studio and equipment and to answer questions you may have but are not there to give specific instruction. If you are interested in learning more about ceramics and hands on instruction, we recommend taking one of our classes.

Prior experience is REQUIRED for anyone attending Open Studio

Please book the exact timeframe you wish to attend and cancel within 12 hours if you are not able to attend. In the coming months, we will be enforcing a “no show” policy, but until then, please cancel so others can enjoy studio time! Thank you!

Open Studio Pricing: $18 per hour

Open Studio hours include the use of equipment & tools. It does not include Glazing & Firing fees or Clay. Please see below for pricing.

Glazing & Firing Fees: 

  • $3 per small piece

  • $4 per medium piece

  • $6 per large piece

  • $10 per xlarge piece

Size is determined by height and width, based on how much room it will take up in the Kiln.

Clay:

Clay is anywhere from $18-25 depending on the type of clay you choose for a 25lb bag of clay.

FAQ:

  • First time at the studio? We do require intermediate ceramics experience for anyone not currently taking a class. If you have prior experience, we’d love to have you, even if you haven’t taken a class at Mud Studio! Let our studio monitor know it’s your first time at the studio and they will show you around and answer any other questions you might have. Also, feel free to email us!

  • At this time we do not provide outside firings. Sorry! All work fired at Mud Studio, must be made at Mud Studio. Thanks for understanding!

  • We do not allow outside clay to be used at Mud Studio, we have clay available at the studio for purchase.

  • Open Studio hours are available anytime classes are not in session.

  • Payment will be collected in Studio & Studio Hours by Appointment only.

  • You are welcome to store your clay at Mud Studio. However, if your clay is left unused after 30 days it will be donated to the studio. If you don’t plan to come in often, you are welcome to take your clay home with you!

If you are just picking up work, you do not need to reserve time. Please just come stop by during these times to pick up. Hours are updated weekly by end of day Monday.
