FAQ

I am new to ceramics, can I take a class?

Absolutely! We welcome all levels. We look forward to having a safe space for you to learn and create.

What should I wear in the studio?

Be prepared to get messy! We will have aprons for you to use in the studio. Wear clothing that is comfortable and close toed shoes. Clay and glaze will most likely wash out of your clothes, but it’s best to not wear your favorite outfit. We recommend that you wear your hair tied back and remove jewelry on your hands and wrists.

If I miss a class during my 6 week session, can I make up my class?

We do not offer an instructor led make up class, due to the limitations of students per class and the amount of wheels we have, however, we do allow you to make up 1 class per 6 week session by giving you 3 hours of outside studio time to practice on your own.

Do I bring my own tools?

We will provide all tools! If you have tools of your own you wish to use, feel free to bring them.

Can I bring my own clay?

Only clay purchased at Mud Studio can be used and fired in our studio. We offer 5 types of clay. This is because there are many different clay bodies out there and they all require different firing temperatures and glaze formulas. Our studio clays and glazes are formulated to fire well with our kilns. Bags of clay cost anywhere from $18-$25.

We Carry: Cinco Blanco, Cinco Rojo, Buffalo Wallow, Porcelain

Do you offer private classes?

We do! We can offer private classes for 4-20 people. Please email us for information!

What cone do you fire to and what kind of kilns do you have?

We have electric Skutt kilns and fire cone 6.

Can I bring my dog to the studio with me?

Unfortunately, no. As much as we love dogs (and all pets!) we have very fragile work. Due to safety regulations, we cannot allow students to bring dogs into the studio, unless they are legal service animals. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Is my pottery food safe?

As long as you use the clays and glazes provided by Mud Studio, your pottery is food safe. Although all pottery is dishwasher safe, we recommend washing by hand. You can microwave your wares, but again, these are handmade pieces, so we recommend heating your food before placing it on your pottery.

When will my work be ready?

Please allow for drying and firing time. The pottery has to dry out completely before going into the kiln. The firings can take up to 24 hours and then have to cool. Pieces are ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after completion.

Do you charge firing fees?

Firing and glaze fees are incorporated into the cost of clay, our classes and memberships. We do however, charge a firing fee for Studio Hours.

Do you accept Cash?

We do not. We are cashless! Credit and Debit card only.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

At this time, we are unable to provide a refund for classes, private events, workshops, etc. once they are paid in full.

However, we are happy to try to work with you if you are unable to make the class you originally signed up for to try to find a replacement before class starts. If we are able to find a replacement, we are happy to provide you a refund.

Send us an email and we will do our best!

Please note: Classes and open studio hours provided with your 6 week class session are not able to be transferred to others once your class session starts.
